Overview
COURSE OVERVIEW
Line Managers, HR professionals and those in well-being roles are critical to mitigating the impact of mental health problems on their people and organisation.
This is a more in-depth version of our half day course.
This course will enable learners to build a mentally healthier environment, whilst recognising and providing initial support to an adult or child who may be experiencing a mental health problem. On successful completion, they may be referred to as a 'Mental Health First Aider', 'Mental Health Champion' or 'Mental Health Advocate'.
Learners will gain an understanding of the mental health continuum and how an individual's mental health may change over time. They will explore risk factors for developing a mental health problem, as well as the relationship between substance use and mental health.
Learners will then gain knowledge of common triggers and early warning signs for specific mental health problems. They will also explore organisations that provide specialised support.
Learners will then consider how they can make a difference. They will learn how to use the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan to start a safe and supportive conversation, encouraging appropriate self-help or professional support when necessary. Learners will develop enhanced communication skills, through non-judgemental listening.
Learners will also explore how to become more mentally resilient, as well as discovering ways that they can challenge stigma and contribute to a positive mental health culture where everyone can thrive.
Finally, learners will consider how they can use the HSE Management Standards and Stevenson-Farmer report to help them build an open and positive mental health culture in their organisation. They will leave the course with a personal, actionable list that will allow the individuals in their organisation to thrive and perform at their best.
