This course will give you an awareness of mental health and the common problems that adults and children may experience.
On successful completion, you may be referred to as a 'Mental Health First Aider', 'Mental Health Champion' or 'Mental Health Advocate'.
In the first module, you'll gain an understanding of the mental health continuum and how an individual's mental health may change over time.
You'll explore the risk factors for developing a mental health problem, as well as the effects that this can have on the person and those around them.
In the second module you'll look at common triggers and early warning signs for specific mental health problems. You'll also explore organisations that provide specialised support for each condition.
The third module will help you to make a difference in the real world.
As well as learning how to become more mentally resilient, you'll explore ways that you can challenge stigma and contribute to a positive mental health culture where everyone can thrive.

This distance learning course can be completed entirely online. It's accessible via computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone.
At it's core, this is a fully interactive eLearning course. It's definitely NOT just a PowerPoint presentation that's been put online, as you might find elsewhere!
eLearning is completely flexible and allows you to complete the course at a time, place and pace that suits you.
Once registered for the course you'll be sent your login details for both the eLearning and for a comprehensive eBook that accompanies the course. If you prefer, the paper copy of the book can be posted to you.
When you start your eLearning, you'll be guided through the interactive activities, referring to the book and other web based resources as you go.
Throughout the course you'll have access to your Tutor, who will be an experienced healthcare professional with a special interest in mental health.
At the end of the eLearning package is a multiple choice knowledge check. This will ensure that you've taken on the key points of the course and are ready for your formal assessment.

FAA Level 1 Award in First Aid for Mental Health Awareness (RQF)
Assessment for this nationally recognised, regulated qualification is done during a 30 minute professional discussion via Zoom.
You'll discuss what you've learnt during a structured yet relaxed video call with your Tutor.
This conversation will allow your Tutor to ensure that you've fully understood the course and meet the assessment criteria.
This video call isn't just about assessment. It's also a final opportunity to ask your Tutor about any questions you may have. They'll be an experienced clinician and will love sharing their real world experiences with you!
To attempt the qualification, you must be at least 14 years old.
Following successful assessment, you'll be awarded the qualification and sent an eCertificate, which is valid for 3 years. Paper certificates are available if you prefer.
