This course is for individuals.  Looking to train a group?

This course will give you the knowledge and confidence to provide appropriate initial support to an adult or young person who may be experiencing a mental health problem.

On successful completion, you will be qualified as a 'Mental Health First Aider', sometimes also referred to as a 'Mental Health Champion' or 'Mental Health Advocate'.

The first module will give you an understanding of the mental health continuum and how an individual's mental health may change over time.

You'll explore risk factors for developing a mental health problem, as well as the relationship between substance use and mental health.

In the second module you'll look at common triggers and early warning signs for specific mental health problems. You'll also explore organisations that provide specialised support for each condition.

The third module will help you to make a difference in the real world. You'll learn how to use the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan to start a safe and supportive conversation, encouraging appropriate self-help or professional support when necessary.

You'll also develop enhanced communication skills, including non-judgemental listening.

Finally, you'll explore how you can become more mentally resilient, as well as discovering ways that you can challenge stigma and contribute to a positive mental health culture where everyone can thrive.
